Kitchen Island with Reclaimed Marble and Walnut

I designed this custom island to be a focal point in a relocated kitchen that became the center of the home. One side of the island is reclaimed marble, while the other is solid black walnut finished in hard wax oil, which adds warmth next to the stone and the brass fixtures.

The cabinet boxes are Baltic birch plywood and sit within the frame. The doors, drawer fronts, and end panels are frame-and-panel, with maple rails and stiles in a Shaker style, painted in Benjamin Moore Advance semi-gloss, a cabinet enamel that cures to a hard, smooth finish. The cabinetry is made to measure around the farmhouse sink, and outlets are built into the island.
